Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose admits he was close to joining Real Madrid last year.
Jose says former Real coach Julen Lopetegui was keen to sign him.
He stated: "They contacted my representative, but they ended up signing Mariano (Diaz).
"It's okay, I'm very happy here at La Real. It's a club with a very good structure."
The Brazilian added: "If I had an opportunity, I wouldn't say no to Spain. When I went to the national team for the first time, I felt very happy. I would like more opportunities because I didn't get to play, but I'm calm."
