Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is desperate to end his side's decades-long wait for a league title.

It was 1990 when the Reds were last Champions of England, a streak they could break during the 2019-2020 season.

Klopp spoke about last season's title race, when they took Manchester City to the wire.

He recalls the game against Leicester, where City needed a great Vincent Kompany goal in the last 20 minutes to seal a 1-0 win.

Speaking at the Football Writers' Association's Northern awards dinner, the German said: "I told Pep what I did last year when Kompany scored this screamer against Leicester.

"The next day we were playing against Barcelona so the day was full with training and preparations for that game.

"And so I came home and my missus told me: 'Come on, we'll watch the game' - and I was like: 'Oh, I'm not sure'.

"But I watched it and I was on my sofa with one hand in my left pocket and one hand in my right pocket.

"If someone would have measured my heart rate...

"Really, the whole season, I was completely fine. I thought they would win. Well, they did, obviously.

"But this game, second by second by second, I started hoping.

"And when I saw Leicester getting tired, I was really angry with them.

"And then Kompany scores from outside the box!"
