Jack Wilshere helped fire West Ham United in the Carabao Cup third-round with a win over Newport.

Manuel Pellegrini rung the changes for the trip to Wales and was repaid in full.

Wilshere scored his first goal in 601 days to open the scoring.

New signing Pablo Fornals then got his first goal for the club to cap off a 2-0 victory.

On his goal, Wilshere said: "It took me a while!

"Obviously I was injured for a long period last year, but now I'm back and I've always said I wanted to score more goals so it was good to get forward and score.

"I felt the team did a professional job tonight and the experienced players in our team like myself, Zaba and Snods are used to playing in these games against lower-division teams and we knew we had to match them physically and I felt we did that tonight."
