Dutch reporter Valentijn Driessen has revealed Louis van Gaal had AGREED to take charge of Tottenham before the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino.
Driessen says Van Gaal "broke his word" to Spurs chairman Daniel Levy at the time when Manchester United made their offer in 2014.
He recalled to De Telegraaf: "Van Gaal could've become the trainer for Tottenham Hotspur. He was already very close with the club. Actually there was already a deal, but suddenly Manchester United came in and he chose United. Then he canceled Tottenham.
"There was a deal. He just broke his word.
"That's a shame, otherwise Louis might have returned (to Tottenham). That would have been a better match than with Jos Mourinho. It would have been nice if Van Gaal would have had it and we would all have known afterwards that Mourinho would not have got it, especially after their past at Man United where Mourinho did a trick on Van Gaal."
