Newcastle United players have not heard from management about who will be taking preseason training.

The Evening Chronicle says the players will learn the identity of a new caretaker boss in the coming days as the Toon squad report back for pre-season.

Pre-season training won't actually start until next week with Thursday and Friday scheduled to be fitness and medical testing with the remainder of the back-room staff.

Tactical work will not begin until the start of the week after, which gives Newcastle extra time to assess the options in front of them to replace Rafa Benitez.

It is expected that Neil Redfearn would be the man to take charge in a caretaker situation but that has not been rubber stamped at this stage.
