French pundit Pierre Menes has branded Arsenal's transfer policy as "incomprehensible" after their swoop for Nicolas Pepe.

Pepe left Lille this week for the Gunners in a club record 80m deal.

But Menes declared on Yahoo Sports: "It was one of the most anticipated transfers of the summer: finally Nicolas Pp will play Arsenal, which sportingly seems to me something coherent in the well-managed career of Nicolas Pp.

"He jumps a level by going at the Gunners. I think for him, it's good.

"Now for the Gunners ... When you have already (Pierre-Emerick) Aubameyang and (Alexandre) Lacazette, go spend 80 potatoes on one attacker more, when you see the summer this defence, it's still quite incomprehensible. I'm not sure that, for the Gunners, the priority was the recruitment of Nicolas Pp.

"Now we come back a little bit when PSG took (Kylian) Mbapp after Neymar, there are opportunities on some players that you have to know not to miss, and that's what happened with Pepe."
