Virgil van Dijk swiftly put an end to interest from Barcelona, according to reports.
The Dutchman is widely considered as the best centre-back in world football after helping guide Liverpool to their sixth Champions League trophy last season.
The Mirror's chief football writer John Cross says Van Dijk's representatives were contacted by Barca officials in order to gauge an interest in a move to the Camp Nou.
"Do not expect it to happen for a moment, but Barcelona made enquiries about whether Virgil van Dijk could be tempted to leave Liverpool," he wrote in The Mirror.
"They were quickly given short shrift by the Dutch defender's representatives. They did not bother taking it further."
