Japanese Ambassador Endo Kazuya hosted the National Day Reception at the Grand Hyatt Manila on March 3, celebrating the 66th birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan. The evening also marked the 70th anniversary of Philippines-Japan friendship, a milestone reflecting decades of partnership and cultural exchange.

In a video message, Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Maria Theresa P. Lazaro extended her greetings, while DFA Undersecretary for Policy Leo Herrera-Lim led the ceremonial toast. The reception gathered an esteemed guest list including Cabinet secretaries, members of the Senate and House of Representatives, and prominent figures from the diplomatic and business communities. Two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo also attended.

The program opened with the Philippine and Japanese national anthems performed by the Annex Chorale Ensemble, a collaboration between the UP Junior Music Educators’ Guild Chorale and the UP Junior Philippine Conductors Association Ensemble from the University of the Philippines College of Music.

In his remarks, Endo reflected on the enduring bond between Japan and the Philippines, highlighting the partnership across politics, economics, culture, sports and people-to-people exchanges. Looking toward the future, he expressed optimism for continued collaboration, encouraging guests to help ensure the shared “tapestry of friendship” remains a lasting heritage for generations to come.
