A farewell beyond blood ties

Kuala Lumpur: A Sikh family’s final farewell to their adopted Chinese family member after more than 80 years together has touched many Malaysians online.

According to reports by Guang Ming Daily and Oriental Daily, the deceased Chinese man, known as Ah Cheng, had been adopted and raised by a Sikh family since infancy.

The reports stated that the man was cared for by the family throughout his life and remained closely connected to them into old age.

Photos shared online showed Sikh family members accompanying funeral arrangements and paying their last respects during the final send-off.

Family members were also seen dressed in mourning attire while assisting with prayers and funeral proceedings.

The story drew widespread attention on social media, with many describing the decades-long bond as a reflection of Malaysia’s multicultural ties and family values.
