It’s time to return to Westeros, a land where knights are judged by their honour constantly, the smallfolk live for a grand spectacle, and quiet political grudges linger beneath polite smiles. HBO’s latest fantasy drama, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, is a tale of chivalry and loyalty. Curious to learn more? Here’s everything you need to know about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, from the plot and cast to its complete episode release schedule.

The series is developed for television by Ira Parker, with George R. R. Martin serving as an executive producer. It is based on Tales of Dunk and Egg, a collection of three previously published novellas: The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword and The Mystery Knight. The story is set around 100 years before Game of Thrones (2011) and 72 years after House of the Dragon (2022), during a period when the Targaryen dynasty still ruled Westeros.

Peter Claffey leads the cast as Ser Duncan the Tall, aka Dunk, while Dexter Sol Ansell plays Egg.

Supporting cast members include Bertie Carvel as Baelor Targaryen, Sam Spruell as Maekar Targaryen, Finn Bennett as Aerion Targaryen and Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, alongside other members of House Targaryen and characters drawn from Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novella series.

What is the plot of the show?

The HBO Max series follows Ser Duncan the Tall, a humble hedge knight with a strict sense of honour, and his sharp-witted squire Egg, who hides a dangerous royal secret.

As they travel from tournament to tournament, the pair become entangled in rivalries among knights and nobles.

Talking about how all creative choices for the series were shaped around Dunk as a character, Parker told Entertainment Weekly, “The title sequences on the original [Game of Thrones] and House of Dragon are big and epic and incredible. Ramin Djawadi’s score is orchestral and large and beautiful. That’s not really Dunk’s M.O. He’s plain and he’s simple and he’s to-the-point. He doesn’t have a lot of flash to him.”
