I have always been fasinated with leadership - specifically, what individual leaders can accomplish by the power of their intellect, level of their unique skills, force of their personality, and effectiveness of their ability to persuade. Leadership comes in many forms and is exercised in many ways. I've long been interested in how the different types of personalities actually become and stay leaders. As a result of my fascination with the human trait of leadership. I've a habit, maybe bad manners of asking how they became great leaders.

As a management educator and HRD practitioner, I am always curious to learn what were the key factors for becoming a leader? Was it luck, drive, talent, training, experience, or some other factor? How was this ability found and cultivated? How did they put it into real action, and what happened when it was tested? Not everyone has been prepared to respond immediately to my barrage of questions.

I am fortunate that my path crossed with Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dr. Anuwar Ali, an economist with exemplary leadership for his contributions to academia. His expertise in industrial planning, people development, and technology innovation has had a big profound impact on national and international research projects. He was one of the four keynote spakers at 2nd Annual Kerjayawan Leadership Conference held at Wyndham Grand Bangsar and the topic of his presentation titled 'Leading With Grace Beyond Positional Power".

Prof Tan Sri Anuwar said, "The higher education and universities play a critical role in shaping and moulding the future generations. As such, the teaching and learning environment in any university has to be at an excellent level to produce world-class quality graduates. The ecosystem for any university has to be ‘student-centred’ because their parents, society and our country has high expectations for those graduates.” (https://kerjaya1.my)

Tan Sri recalled during his tenure as Chairman of the Board and Vice Chancellor of the public and private universities, Hon. Minister of Higher Education & Policymakers consulted those with experience in the academic world for their knowledge and specific expertise. The academes, alumni, students, staffers & community look up at him as 'examplary model of learning' who practise human values.
