TAMBUNAN: Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) President Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said Sabah and Sarawak need an additional 34 seats to meet the 35 per cent ratio as constitutional protection.
He said one of the demands based on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) was to return the parliamentary seats which are 35 per cent to Sabah and Sarawak.
Sabah and Sarawak agreed to merge to form the Federation of Malaysia subject to constitutional protection for the rights of these two states.
Jeffrey, who is also Deputy Chief Minister 1 and Agriculture, Fisheries and Foods Industry Minister said that the previous ratio of 65:35 (2/3) Parliament seats no longer exists after Singapore left Malaysia in 1965.
