In a recent development, an alarming incident involving a ministerial vehicle tailgating an ambulance has sparked public outcry and calls for immediate action. MCA Youth national deputy chairman, Mike Chong Yew Chuan, has vehemently urged Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and take stern action against those responsible.

The incident occurred on February 3, when a vehicle marked with the word "Menteri" was reported to have tailgated an ambulance in an effort to navigate through traffic congestion resulting from an accident on the North-South Expressway in Perak, between Simpang Pulai and Tapah.

Chong emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, "This includes disclosing the identity of the minister involved and even suspending the driving licenses of the minister and the driver in order to demonstrate the Malaysia Madani unity government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting the government’s image." Such actions, he argues, are essential to uphold traffic safety and the sanctity of road users' lives.

He further condemned the reckless behavior displayed by the ministerial vehicle, asserting that it not only sets a deplorable example but also poses significant risks to other road users. "As Transport Minister, Anthony Loke must take this matter seriously and take stern action to show his determination to uphold traffic safety and the safety of road users," Chong insisted.

Highlighting the broader implications of the incident, Chong emphasized its direct correlation to road safety concerns. He warned that failure on the part of the Transport Minister to address this issue promptly would signal tolerance towards reckless driving behaviors within the Cabinet, undermining public trust in the government's commitment to enforcing traffic regulations.

Chong questioned, "If the Transport Ministry (MOT) adopts an indifferent approach, what moral high ground does the unity government have in the future to call on the people to drive carefully or to enforce traffic rules?" This sentiment underscores the urgency of the situation and the imperative need for decisive action.

Moreover, Chong pointed out that crucial details regarding the ministerial vehicle involved, such as its license plate number, have already been circulated online by concerned citizens. Therefore, he urged the Transport Ministry to expedite its investigation process and swiftly ascertain the identity of the minister and the driver responsible for the reckless behavior.
