My best friend, Professor Naqi Azam, Senior Advisor to the Vice Chancellor of DHA Suffa University Karachi who has a series of speaking engagements at the universities in the cool Northern Pakistan, impressed upon me about Prierie Rose or commonly known as wild roses seldom found in human habitat at Hunza. He could not resist to stop for series of photographs on main Karakorum Highway of this beautiful roadside shrub of Prierie roses to share them with me. Naqi invited me to visit Gilgit-Baltistan, said “I know your wife, Zarina has visited Karachi some years ago. I believe she loves to see and touch the pink wild mountain rose, the nature's delicate charm in the heart of Karakoram mountains, where wild flowers dare to bloom beneath the edged spires.”

Is renowned for its breathtaking mountain landscapes, including the majestic peaks of the Karakoram Range. It is renowned for its spectacular natural beauty. I remember Naqi revealed that “The traditional dress of Gilgit-Baltistan is a key cultural aspect. Men wear shalwar and a traditional cap, while the women wear a shalwar kameez. Its culture blends Tibetan, Mongolian & Central Asia influences. Predominantly the people are warm, hospitable, and rich in traditions and customs. The region is renowned for its traditional arts and crafts, natural beauty, and outdoor activities like mountaineering, trekking, and climbing. The local takes great pridefor its traditional dishes such as Chapshuro (minced beef pie), Gyaling/Gral (thin wheat bread), Marzan (wheat dough with apricot oil), Balay (noodles with goat meat and broth), Namkeen tea, and Prapo. The family system in Gilgit-Baltistan is based on traditional values.”
