In the 1980s, my family lived in a semi-detached home at Taman Bukit Ampang located along Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur (KL) - Hulu Langat, Selangor. A good spot then to view the scenic sunset and the skyline of KL city. My wife, Zarina & I with two of our 4 children, Jann & Farouq, have fond memories of our favorite shopping center, Ampang Park, the first shopping mall in KL. Ampang Park isn't just a name - it's a place of KL's history & was part of the fabric of KL. Its building was of historic architectural heritage significance. Other than rows of shops, a supermarket, many boutiques, a beer garden on the roof top, and one of our favorite F&B outlets was the famous Cozy Corner Restaurant. We dined there regularly and entertained our relatives and friends.
We remember the features of Ampang Park included a carpark for 450 vehicles, a children's playground, an entertainment deck, a nice exhibition gallery, a “theatrette”, with escalators and lifts. It was a place where our family's memories were made, relationships blossomed, and the community came together. The demolition of Ampang Park in 2018 marked the end of an era. Last Friday, when we passed by Jalan Ampang KL, Farouq, and his best half, Nadja, with their son, Daniel, brought my wife, Zarina, and I for lunch at Cozy House at Great Eastern Mall, which is a highly popular, halal certified family restaurant on the third floor, known as a convenient, reliable, and reasonably priced dining spot for locals and foreign tourists. It is significant for serving a diverse of “delicious food” mix of Chinese, Malay, Thai, and Western dishes.
I found the restaurant offers fast & efficient service, thought it can get crowded during lunch hours. It is comfortable with nostalgic 80s-inspired ambiance.
