MINISTRY of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) officers in Johor have initiated an investigation following a viral social media post showing a vehicle owner allegedly filling RON95 petrol into plastic containers in large quantities at a petrol station in Skudai on 21 March 2026.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Johor state office said it had conducted immediate inspections at the premises, including reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage as well as examining transaction records and purchase receipts to verify the incident.

Preliminary findings indicated two separate fuel transactions: one involving filling the vehicle’s fuel tank, and another involving petrol being transferred into plastic containers placed in the vehicle’s boot, with quantities exceeding the limit permitted under Malaysia’s supply control regulations.

Johor KPDN director Lilis Saslinda Binti Pornomo said enforcement officers also met with the petrol station management during the inspection and issued reminders to ensure compliance with regulations, while urging enhanced monitoring to prevent similar incidents from recurring.

The ministry added that follow-up action would include locating and calling up the vehicle owner for further investigation.

The case has been classified under Subregulation 12A of the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974, under the Control of Supplies Act 1961, for suspected breach of instructions issued by the Controller of Supplies.

If convicted, the penalties under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 may include substantial fines and imprisonment.

For individuals, offences may carry fines of up to RM1,000,000 or imprisonment of up to three years, or both, with repeat offences attracting fines of up to RM3,000,000 or imprisonment of up to five years, or both. For companies, fines may reach up to RM2,000,000, increasing to RM5,000,000 for repeat offences.

The Johor office also encouraged the public to lodge complaints and provide information through various official channels, including WhatsApp at 019-848 8000, the KPDN e-complaint portal at [e-aduan@kpdn.gov.my](mailto:e-aduan@kpdn.gov.my), the call centre at 1-800-886-800, and the Ez ADU mobile application. - March 24, 2026
