A traditional Malay wedding-themed reception hosted by my former Malaysia Airlines (MAS) colleagues, Wan Abdul Hadi Bin Wan Salleh and his wife, Maszelina Binti Md Jim, on 18th December (Saturday) afternoon at Dewan Raja Muda Musa, Kompleks Belia Dan Kebudayaan Negeri Selangor, in Shah Alam, showcased the beauty of Malay customs and cultural heritage. From the delicious food served to the glittering vibrant bersanding ceremony of the newly groom, Wan Amirul Fikry Bin Wan Abdul Hadi, and bride, Nur Syarina Binti Shaari; guests were treated to an immersive experience of a refreshing Malay traditional wedding. Highlighting the creativity and originality of the Malay wedding theme blended with Islamic rituals making it truly memorable.
A traditional Malay wedding reception, called Majlis Bersanding, is a large celebration where the newlyweds are seated side-by-side on a decorated dais (pelamin) to receive blessings from their parents and senior family members. In fact, this is the main event, a formal wedding reception where the couple is treated like royalty for a day. The reception is characterized by a big buffet, typically featuring dishes like yellow rice (Nasi Minyak) which representing prosperity and other celebratory home-made cookies and drink. Guests are also given wedding favors, such as the bunga telor (a symbol of quick fertility).

I feel fortunate and deeply honored that two of my former colleagues, Wan Abdul Hadi & Maszelina at MAS some years ago invited my wife, Zarina and I to attend their son's wedding reception. It was truly enjoyable to watch a beautiful display of traditional Malay heritage. It gave us the opportunity to meet and engaged in lively conversations with many of my former MAS colleagues who are comfortably retired now residing at various states all over Malaysia.
I found wedding receptions strengthen relationships by bringing together the couple's loves ones to celebrate their union, creating a shared experience of joy and support. It offers a chance for the couple to thank guests for their attendance and for families and friends to connect, builds stronger community.
