Explore Malaysia's achievements and inspirational stories

On a humid December evening in Petaling Jaya, something rare happened: time appeared to slow down. Cars lined up, lights glowed warmly against the dusk, and familiar scents of fast-food comfort drifted through the air. This was not just another brand event. It was A&W Malaysia reminding Malaysians why some places are more than just restaurants.

A Drive-In Becomes A Gathering Place Again

Held on 17 December 2025, A&W Malaysia’s “Seasons of Community and Connection” was a privately hosted, ticketed year-end celebration at its iconic Petaling Jaya Drive-In (PJDI). With the outlet closed to the public from 3:00pm to 6:00pm, approximately 190 guests, including partners, collaborators, and thought leaders, gathered for an afternoon rooted in reflection and reconnection.

Hosted by Andrew Khoo, Chairman and CEO of MUI Group, and co-hosted by Adrian Ung of Books For Better World and Crystal Lim, LinkedIn Top 20 Influencer Malaysia, the event leaned heavily into A&W’s long-standing promise of “Good Food, Good Times.” Vintage combi vans, a classic Beetle, mock-up trays, and car-side dining visuals recreated the golden era of drive-in culture, turning the venue into a living snapshot of the past.

The Drive-In Launch

More than nostalgia, the event also served as a soft launch for the return of A&W’s iconic drive-in dining experience. Officially relaunched on 18 December 2025 at PJDI, the concept blends retro charm with digital ease.

Four dedicated drive-in bays at the restaurant entrance are now reserved exclusively for drive-in customers. Diners can place orders through the A&W app, key in their car number, and enjoy table service delivered straight to their vehicle.

Food Memories Reignite With Familiar Favourites

Two major menu moments stole the spotlight. First, the long-awaited return of A&W’s Onion Rings. Responding directly to customer demand, the refreshed version features real onion slices and an improved recipe designed for a crispier, crunchier bite.

Next came a taste of something entirely new. The RB Waffle, available exclusively at A&W from 18 December 2025, debuted with a syrup inspired by the brand’s iconic RB flavour. The ceremonial pre-launch saw Andrew Khoo and Adrian Ung personally crafting waffles, joined by A&W Malaysia CEO Charles Chen.

Conversations, Community, And Giving Back

Beyond food and flair, the event carried emotional depth. A special CEO Coffee Podcast session invited selected guests to share personal memories of A&W. The stories reinforced what many already knew: A&W has quietly stitched itself into multiple generations of Malaysian experiences.

A&W Malaysia also launched a book drive in collaboration with Books For Better World (BFBW). A dedicated donation bin will remain at PJDI for three months, extending the event’s impact beyond a single evening. A&W Malaysia further contributed RM1,000 to support BFBW’s ongoing literacy efforts.

The celebration was supported by event partners Ecominim, an eco-friendly household detergent brand. And Nature Farm, which sponsored AvoFresh cold-pressed avocado products as lucky draw prizes. And guests left with commemorative RB mugs and limited-edition Rooty Bears.
