The history of four schools in the Royal Town of Kuala Kangsar, in the State of Perak namely: Methodist Girls' School (MGS); Government English Girls School (GEGS); Sekolah Kebangsaan Datin Khadijah (SK Datin Khadijah) & Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Raja Perempuan Kelsom (SMKRPK) had their roots 77 years ago (1949 - 2026). Princess of Sultan of Perak, Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah 11, a beautiful Raja Zarith Sofiah (now Queen of Malaysia) walked into the premise of SK Datin Khadijah as a pupil of Standard One. She is not just a respected royalty but very caring. She is a talented artist with her impressive drawings.

Until today, every child who went to that primary school in those days remember Her Majesty as the Princess with Golden Heart. They are really proud of her. Years passed. Time moved swiftly, as it always does. The little Princess grew up. Now she can speak many languages. She is a Princess of knowledge who graduated from the prestigious Somerville College, University of Oxford in 1979. The Princess became a Queen of grace, wisdom, and is still what she always was.

As Queen with a golden heart, Her Majesty consented to grace the School Grand Reunion 2026 and engaged in conversations with the 800 alumni present at Hotel Majestic Kuala Lumpur. The cheerful mood was sort of “Remembering our good days in Kuala Kangsar”. Yes, their excellence should be remembered and applauded as, in one way or another, many of their achievements over the years have made Malaysia a respected country in the world.

Zarina revealed “Sometimes it takes reconnecting with classmates, schoolmates & old friends to realize how far you've come. It's friends like them that make the years apart like minutes.” Pix: Jann

My wife, Zarina, Batch 1975 with her classmates and schoolmates including their teachers feeling on “cloud nine” extremely happy and elated like during their primary school days with the royal presence of Her Majesty. She could recall “It's like being so joyful, all of us feel as high as the clouds in the sky!”
