A 62 year old lottery outlet worker in Taman Pusat Kepong was doused in petrol and set alight by a man who walked in, did it, and walked back out. It was, as far as anyone can tell, an attack with no clear motive against a specific victim.
WeirdKaya reported that police tracked the suspect down nine days later through an unlikely detail: burns on his own left hand, sustained during the attack itself. Officers staked out his Kepong home and arrested him the moment he returned, apparently under the impression that public attention had died down enough to risk going back.
How He Was Actually Caught
New Straits Times reported earlier in the investigation that police were combing through CCTV footage from the area to trace the suspect's movements before and after the attack. Acting Sentul district police chief Superintendent Jasni Zolpa described the arrest as a positive development after more than a week without a breakthrough, and the case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
The Part That Still Does Not Add Up
Nobody has offered a motive. No dispute, no debt, no prior contact between attacker and victim has been reported. That absence is what made the case unsettling to the public in the first place, an apparently random act of extreme violence against someone doing an ordinary job on an ordinary morning.
A Reward Was Already on the Table
Before the arrest, the local MP had offered a RM5,000 reward for information leading to the attacker's identification, a sign of how much pressure was already building publicly. My Opinion
The detail that gets me is that he was caught because of his own injury, not because of a confession or a tip. Nine days of hiding, undone by the exact same fire he started. There is something almost fitting about that, even if it does nothing to answer the question everyone actually wants answered, which is why.
