This trip to Kluang (居銮) and Batu Pahat (峇株巴辖) was primarily for work. Over a few days, my schedule was packed with market visits and client meetings, moving from one appointment to another. It was busy and exhausting, which made the time after work feel especially valuable.

After work, instead of heading straight back to the hotel, I took a short detour based on a friend’s recommendation and visited the Four Sea Dragon King Temple (四海龙王大伯公庙) in Batu Pahat. Batu Pahat is often referred to as the “Town of Temples” (神庙之乡), home to many well-known and long-standing places of worship. It wasn’t a planned activity—just a simple decision to slow down and unwind after a long day.

Arriving in the evening, the atmosphere felt calm and peaceful. Located near the seaside, the temple is surrounded by open space and a gentle sea breeze, making it easy to relax and clear the mind. As I walked through the temple grounds, the scent of incense filled the air, yet the surroundings remained quiet and comforting. At that moment, it felt less like sightseeing and more like recharging myself.

Many people associate Batu Pahat with its food—such as Han Kee Cake & Café (汉记面包西果店) and Zhu Xiao Di Bak Kut Teh Noodles (猪小弟肉骨面)—but there are also meaningful cultural and spiritual places worth visiting. The Four Sea Dragon King Temple is one of them. More than just a place of worship, it reflects the local community’s beliefs, traditions, and heritage.

With Chinese New Year approaching and the transition from the Year of the Snake to the Year of the Horse, I can imagine how lively this place will be during the festive season. I look forward to experiencing that atmosphere someday.

This work trip reminded me that sometimes, all we need is a small pause after a busy day to rediscover moments of calm.

Lastly, other attractions recommended by friends—such as D’ Garden Park, Batu Pahat, and Chong Long Gong Temple at Jalan Segenting, Batu Pahat (石文丁崇龙宫)—were only passed by without stopping to explore. Maybe next time!
