- Mourners have attended the funeral in Middlesbrough for 23-year-old Jakub Matusiak, one of seven people killed in a head-on collision on the A66.
- The service took place at St John The Evangelist Church in South Bank on Friday, with attendees wearing black and orange to honour Mr Matusiak.
- Four local schools closed early at lunchtime following concerns over anticipated traffic congestion and transport disruption.
- Education Secretary Lucy Powell backed the headteachers' decision to close early, saying that child safety and community wellbeing were paramount.
- Cleveland Police earlier said officers would be “visible” in the area, following tensions after a previous vigil led to cars being set on fire.
