Akali Dal Waris Punjab De received a boost with the joining of Aam Aadmi Party leader Rachhpal Singh Rajasansi along with his supporters. The party claimed that people of Punjab had become disillusioned with traditional political parties and their “false promises”. Rachhpal Singh, who had been serving as district president of the AAP IT Wing in Amritsar rural and was also a member of the Lok Sabha Amritsar screening committee, formally joined the party with his associates.

Tarsem Singh, father of Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh, stated that Punjabis were fed up with the “anti-people policies” of traditional and opportunistic political parties. He said issues such as drug abuse, corruption, unemployment, high-handedness and harassment of youth had eroded public trust in successive governments.

He further claimed that people from all sections of society were increasingly joining Akali Dal Waris Punjab De, influenced by the ideology and struggle led by Amritpal Singh for the rights of Punjab. “The party will continue to struggle for Punjab, Punjabiyat and Panthic interests, and the state’s politics will witness a major change in the coming time,” he said. Tarsem Singh also appealed to citizens to verify their votes and those of their family members during the upcoming voter verification process. He expressed concern that eligible Punjabi voters’ names could be deleted, while non-Punjabi voters might be added in large numbers for political gains by the ruling dispensation at the Centre. He assured that the party would extend all possible assistance during the verification process, particularly to businessmen and students living outside Punjab or abroad, to ensure that no eligible voter’s name was removed from the electoral rolls.
