AAP MLA from Moga, Amandeep Kaur Arora, appeared before a Moga court today in connection with a criminal defamation complaint she filed against BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal on May 13. The complaint was filed over Maliwal’s alleged social media post describing AAP MLAs in Punjab as “bhed, bakriyon” (sheep and goats).

Her counsel, advocate Ajay Pal Singh Bhullar, sought the issuance of a pre-cognisance notice to Swati Maliwal. The court, however, adjourned the matter to May 25 for consideration.

Notably, Maliwal, who was earlier associated with AAP, has been a vocal critic of the party, its national convener Arvind Kejriwal, and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.

Speaking to reporters, MLA Amandeep Arora said, “Swati Maliwal referred to Punjab MLAs as ‘sheep and goats’. We have filed a criminal defamation complaint against her. I appeared before the court today. For a long time, she has been targeting and insulting our MLAs. One cannot expect such statements from an educated person. The level of politics has sunk very low. I don’t think educated people will enter politics, or that their families will allow them to, if such remarks continue. We enter politics to serve the people, but when elected representatives are referred to in such a manner, this cannot be tolerated.”
