Days after being appointed by the Aam Aadmi Party as halqa in-charge of Phagwara, MP Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal received a rousing welcome from party workers on Wednesday.

He entered the city in an open car and was given a floral reception. The party workers, who delivered a welcome speech for him, even projected him as the Deputy Chief Minister’s face after the 2027 Assembly elections.

Dr Chabbewal also did not fail to respond to the public in the same gesture. He first entered KG Resort, the venue for the welcome event and bowed down to those present from the stage. Then he started setting a tone evoking religious sentiments of the people, “I am blessed to be given a chance to serve this place which has a lot of religious significance, “Three Sikh Gurus had visited Palahi village here. The revered place of Guru Ravidas too falls here at Chak Hakim. Ghati Dham here is association with Lord Parshuram.”

Then started his long list of promises to the masses, he said, “I will set an example here by assuring that the people’s work is done without recommendations and without expenses. The road work will be carried out on a war footing and before the rainy season, a campaign for cleaning the sewer systems and garbage dumps will be ensured.”

He said, “The road leading to GNA University and the newly constructed road to Mauli would be repaired at the earliest. Funds for Banga Road have been received but its budget had increased by Rs 1.5 crore. I will try to resolve that issue so that the road work can start.”

Then came his bigger promises. “The demand to make Phagwara a district is under the Chief Minister’s consideration and every possible effort will be made to fulfil it. JCT Mill will soon be restarted so that workers can get employment”. He also announced that the state government would celebrate the birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas at Chak Hakim on May 30.
