The district unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) staged a dharna at Vishwakarma Chowk, in front of the District BJP president’s house, at Sirhind town on Sunday to protest the Centre’s alleged anti-Punjab policies and ED raids to intimidate AAP leaders.
The protest was led by district president Ajay Libda and attended by Fatehgarh Sahib MLA Lakhbir Singh Rai, Bassi Pathana MLA Rupinder Singh Happy, Amloh MLA Gurinder Singh Gari and AAP SC wing state president Gurpreet Singh GP, along with party workers and office-bearers.
AAP leaders accused the Narendra Modi-led Union Government of trying to intimidate Punjab leaders using central agencies and alleged that 6 Rajya Sabha MPs from Punjab had been pressured into joining the BJP. They alleged misuse of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to target Punjab ministers.
They claimed the Centre had consistently adopted policies against Punjab and cited the now-repealed farm laws, issues related to Chandigarh and the Bhakra Beas Management Board. The leaders warned that the party would launch a bigger agitation if the Centre did not put an end to its “anti-Punjab actions”.
