A BABY boy discovered abandoned behind a house in Kampung Alor Lintang, Kampung Raja, Besut last Sunday is reportedly in good health, according to authorities, while his teenage mother remains in a weakened condition.

Terengganu Social Welfare Department (JKM) Director Mazura Ngah Abdul Manan confirmed that officials conducted a visit to check on both the mother and child yesterday.

“The mother is still weak, while the baby is healthy. Both are receiving treatment at Besut Hospital,” she said.

Mazura added that the infant will be placed under JKM’s care once he is discharged from hospital to ensure his welfare is fully protected.

She highlighted that cases involving underage mothers and their children are inherently high-risk.

“JKM consistently ensures close monitoring is in place. The matter will be managed from the outset until it is resolved in court,” Mazura said.

Media reports have revealed that the abandoned newborn case involves a teenage mother aged 16 and her younger brother, pointing to a disturbing incident of incest.

Authorities have indicated that the situation is being handled with the utmost care, with ongoing oversight to safeguard both the mother and child.

The case underscores the challenges faced by social welfare and law enforcement authorities in protecting vulnerable children and addressing sensitive family matters, particularly when minors are involved. - December 16, 2025
