40-year-old Inspector Mohd Tarmizi Said is showing what it means to stand strong against corruption after rejecting a bribe, as reported by BERNAMA.
Based at the Selangor district police headquarters, he was one of 200 officers and staff who received a special letter of appreciation from Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain for their integrity and bravery while on duty.
He turned down a RM50k bribe
During a diesel smuggling operation in Selangor, Mohd Tarmizi stayed true to his duty when he turned down a RM50,000 bribe and arrested the person who tried to bribe him.
The incident, which took place in 2023, ended with the suspect facing charges and now serving time in prison after being convicted.
“There’s no need for big praise. It’s just part of my job. As a police officer in the field, we face temptations, including bribes. I feel it’s my duty to deal with it, and in the end, it helps protect the reputation of the police force,” Mohd Tarmizi said.
“PDRM members’ good behaviour should be recognised”
Earlier, Razarudin mentioned that the good behaviour of PDRM members should be recognised and celebrated to help change the public’s negative view of the force.
He also said that giving out a special letter of appreciation would encourage other officers to do their jobs with even more dedication.
