Abdul Aziz’s wide policing experience behind appointment as Deputy IGP

DATUK Seri Abdul Aziz Abdul Majid’s more than three decades of experience across key policing and intelligence divisions have preceded his appointment as Deputy Inspector-General of Police, effective Sept 9.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the appointment received the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the advice of the Prime Minister and recommendation of the Police Force Commission, as provided under Clauses 4 and 5 of Article 140 of the Federal Constitution.

“Based on his expertise and experience in policing, Abdul Aziz has high competence and leadership capabilities as Deputy Inspector-General of Police,” he said in a statement today.

Abdul Aziz, 59, joined the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) on July 1, 1995, after obtaining a Master of Social Science in Police Studies from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

Throughout his career, he has served in the Management Department, Special Branch, Criminal Investigation Department, Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department, Commercial Crime Investigation Department, Logistics and Technology Department, and Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department.

He has held several senior positions, including Director of Management, Deputy Director of Special Branch, Deputy Director of Narcotics and Deputy Chief of Police of Penang.

His other roles included Principal Assistant Director of Management Policy/Human Resources and Principal Assistant Director of the Integrated Special Investigation Team.

Abdul Aziz has also undergone various courses and seminars in Malaysia and abroad, including the 8th International Symposium of Best Police Practice in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and the Intelligence Management Development Programme in Australia. - September 14, 2026
