PKR Hulu Rajang branch chairman, Senator Abun Sui Anyit, has been removed from his position as Sarawak PKR leadership council deputy chairman – a victim of the party's reshuffling of its leadership in seven states.
Abun, who held the position for the last two years, was replaced by Ahmad Nazib Johari, the party's Santubong branch chief.
Abun did not give his take on the reasons for his removal.
“There are ... reasons but I keep them (to myself) for now.”
He said party president Anwar Ibrahim has the prerogative to appoint and restructure the party.
Roland Engan, the state chairman in a statement said replacing Abun was “deemed necessary” after Anwar considered the feedback from all 31 branch chiefs throughout Sarawak.
“The aim is to strengthen the party in Sarawak. Strengthening the party is the priority at this time,” he said.
Engan also gave notice that the Sarawak leadership council would also be reshuffled “if necessary”.
He said this reshuffle would only take place after discussions with Nazib and after receiving feedback from all the 31 branch chiefs. – May 28, 2024.
