
KUALA TERENGGANU, Aug 15 — A senior administrative assistant of a local authority (PBT) here, has been remanded for five days for suspected abuse of power by approving the withdrawal of the agency’s union welfare fund for personal use.
Magistrate Nik Mohd Tarmizie Nik Mohd Sukri granted the remand application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) against the man from today until Saturday.
According to a source, the suspect who is the union’s treasurer at the PBT, is believed to have committed the act from 2017 to 2020 involving almost RM200,000 through more than 30 transactions.
The suspect in his 50s, was arrested at about 12.30pm yesterday at the Terengganu MACC office when he came to give his statement.
The case is being investigated under Section 23 (1) of the MACC Act 2009. — Bernama
