AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli was happy with their Trofeo Berlusconi win against Monza.

After finishing 1-1, Milan won the clash on penalties on Tuesday.

Pioli later said: "We're not hiding, we want to win our first league match. It's only right that the boys are eager and ambitious, but let's just think about starting the championship well.

"We played well on the pitch against a team that plays very well, managing to steal many balls. We have to make better use of the chances we create and do better in certain situations. These friendlies allow us to get to the championship at our best, physically and mentally and tactically.

"We've been competitive again for three years. There are several teams that can win. To stay competitive we have to raise our level. Those who have arrived are young people already trained in football, then clearly it will take some time, but we have everything to play the football we like. The first three league games are not easy. Our first goal is to start the league well."
