Acclaimed series with 100% Rotten Tomatoes score cancelled – and its lead star is disappointed

Prime Video has swung the axe on acclaimed heartfelt series It’s Not Like That – and the lead star has expressed his frustration over the news.

Months after being written out of police procedural Will Trent, Scream 3 star Scott Foley saw his latest project be unceremoniously cancelled by the Amazon streamer despite apparently high ratings, and a perfect score of 100 per cent on review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.

Foley, 53, shared an Instagram video in which he shared his honest feelings about the news.

“After six or so weeks in Prime Video’s Top 10, I think getting as high as like three or four, really great reviews — I think we have like 100 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes — our little show called It’s Not Like That has been cancelled at Amazon Prime,” he said, before shrugging in confusion.

The actor, whose credits also include Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, admitted he was “disappointed” but “grateful for the chance”.

“I got to make a show I’m so proud of with people I grew to like a lot, and now we don’t get to make it anymore, and you don’t get to watch it.”

He continued: “If you watched it, thank you. I appreciate it. If you didn’t, it’s still on Amazon Prime. It’s not going to change the cancellation, but I wanted to thank everybody who took the time to check it out.

“Whether it was you found it on your own, whether it was a recommendation you saw on social media, it’s appreciated. So thank you.”

It’s Not Like That, created by Ian Deitchman and Kristin Robinson, starred Foley as Malcolm, a widowed pastor who strikes up a friendship with divorced mum-of-two Lori (Erinn Hayes), with the pair bonding over being single parents.

Addressing the show’s cast and crew, Foley said: “I loved making the show with you, and I would work with you again and again and again.”

In response to his post, Foley’s co-star JR Ramirez praised the actor for his leadership during filming.

It’s Not Like That premiered as part of Prime Video’s Wonder Project add-on subscription in January before being released globally in May.

Deitchman and Robinson previously worked as writers on the US comedy-drama Parenthood.

Loosely based on the 1989 Ron Howard film of the same name, Parenthood – considered one of the best family dramas of all time – originally aired on NBC from 2010 and 2015. It follows three generations of the Braverman family in Berkeley, California, and stars Craig T Nelson, Six Feet Under’s Peter Krause and Gilmore Girls star Lauren Graham.
