Kota Kinabalu: Cooperation between engineering professionals and local authorities in urban planning and development saw a boost with the meeting between Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia (Acem) Sabah Branch and Dewan Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu (DBKK) recently.

Following the successful engagement, DBKK announced plans to establish a special technical working group to streamline coordination processes and reinforce its commitment to responsible urban growth through sound engineering practices and efficient governance.

Meanwhile, the Acem delegation was led by its Sabah Chairman Benny Song, included Datuk Dr Amarjit Singh (Honorary Secretary), past Chairman Tan KJ and several committee members.

They were welcomed by DBKK Director General Datuk Lifred Wong and senior department heads.

During the productive discussions, both parties addressed critical issues including project approval processes, regulatory compliance, and incorporating engineering best practices into public infrastructure development.

DBKK expressed strong support for the collaboration, emphasising that partnership with the engineering community will improve the quality and sustainability of current and future municipal projects.

The meeting also provided valuable insights into challenges faced by both organisations.
