ACEN Corp. on Monday said that it had started building battery energy storage systems (BESS) for solar and battery storage projects in Zambales.
In a statement, ACEN said construction was underway for two battery storage projects with a total capacity of 1,660 megawatt-hours (MWh). These will back up the 585-megawatt (MW) SanMar solar project in San Marcelino and its 363-MW Palauig Solar project in Palauig.
The facilities will enable renewable energy generated during periods of high solar output to be stored and delivered when demand is highest, including during evening peak hours and periods of reduced solar generation.
ACEN said 450 MW of the combined 948 MW capacity of the two Zambales solar projects was already online, with the remaining capacity expected to be completed within 2027.
Collectively, ACEN’s solar facilities in Zambales are expected to generate approximately 1,400 gigawatt-hours of clean electricity annually once fully operational, producing enough renewable energy to power around 340,000 households.
The company said it had also completed 14 kilometers of transmission infrastructure connecting its renewable energy facilities to the Luzon grid, with another 22 kilometers under construction.
ACEN shares on Monday slipped 0.04, or 1.32 percent, to close at P3.00 per share.
