Acer is proving that big laptops don’t need to be heavy. The company has revealed the Swift Edge, a 16-inch notebook that weighs just 1.17kg, or less than a 13-inch MacBook Air M2. Sitting at the top of the Swift lineup, it features AMD’s latest Ryzen Pro 6000 Series processors and a 4K OLED display, so it doesn’t look like the company has sacrificed much in the pursuit of portability-except maybe a low price.

In Malaysia, the Swift Edge is available in two configurations-an AMD Ryzen 5 model with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, as well as an AMD Ryzen 7 version with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Prices of the two variants are as follows:

  • AMD Ryzen 5 6600U + 8GB RAM + 512GB storage RM5,299
  • AMD Ryzen 7 6800U + 16GB RAM + 1TB storage RM6,299

Both variants are available on the Acer eStore and the company’s official Lazada and Shopee stores starting today, October 8. The first 25 units will ship with a free Logitech MX Anywhere 3 mouse worth RM431. Every Swift Edge comes with a two-year warranty and a one-year international traveller warranty.

The Swift Edge’s lack of weight stems from the use of a magnesium aluminium alloy case that measures 12.95mm thick. Acer says the laptop features the Swift line’s minimalist aesthetic with precise linear details and a sharp rear edge. It also comes with a unique hinge design that props up the rear of the laptop when opened.

Under the skin lies either an AMD Ryzen 5 6600U six-core or an AMD Ryzen 7 6800U eight-core chip, built on a 6nm process. The laptop comes with integrated Radeon graphics, 8 or 16GB of LPDDR5 memory and a 512GB or 1TB Gen4 NVMe SSD. A level 2 Microsoft Pluton security processor is also included, providing additional protection for credentials (such as passwords) and encryption keys. All this is juiced by a 54 watt-hour battery that provides a claimed 10 hours and 30 minutes of battery life.
