Approximately 180,000 commercial vehicles have yet to register under the Subsidised Diesel Control System (SKDS) 2.0, as highlighted by Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Deputy Minister Fuziah Salleh. She urged the owners of these vehicles to swiftly submit their applications to avail themselves of the government’s diesel subsidy.

“Records indicate that there are 389,000 vehicles of this type registered with the Road Transport Department, but only 209,000 have registered under SKDS 2.0. This leaves around 180,000 vehicles unregistered, possibly due to owners thinking they are ineligible or finding the registration process cumbersome,” Fuziah explained.

Fuziah emphasized that eligibility for the diesel subsidy does not require owning a large fleet. “Even owners with one, two, or three vehicles can apply, as long as they fall within the 23 specified categories,” she stated during a press briefing after attending the Penang-level ‘Bijak Belanja Pengguna’ program and Rahmah MADANI Sales in Simpang Ampat.

She also mentioned that companies can submit their applications at https://mysubsidi.kpdn.gov.my and then apply for a fleet card from their preferred oil company. Public transport and commercial vehicle owners who have received SKDS approval but have not yet received a fleet card from an oil company should keep diesel purchase receipts to enable cash refund claims from the Finance Ministry.

Responding to the Penang Refuse Lorries Association's request to include Rigid Roll-On Roll-Off (RORO) lorries in the MySubsidi Diesel system, Fuziah clarified that the government currently recognizes 33 eligible types of public transport and commercial vehicles. “For vehicles not listed among these 33 categories, owners can submit an appeal. Each appeal will be thoroughly reviewed by the appeal committee,” she said.

Fuziah suggested formalizing any issues in writing to facilitate engagement sessions between the association and the ministry. “This approach allows for detailed discussions to find the best solutions,” she added.

In conclusion, Fuziah reiterated the importance of registering under SKDS 2.0 to benefit from the diesel subsidy, stressing that the process is accessible even to small-scale vehicle owners. She encouraged all eligible vehicle owners to take advantage of this opportunity and assured that the ministry is open to addressing any concerns or challenges faced during the registration process.
