Actor cast as convicted mushroom killer Erin Patterson in new true crime drama

  • New Zealand actor Melanie Lynskey is set to star as convicted murderer Erin Patterson in a six-part Paramount+ limited drama titled Mushroom Murders: There’s More to Unearth, which is scheduled to premiere in 2027.
  • Lynskey will also serve as an executive producer on the series, which will reconstruct the 97 days between the July 2023 family lunch in Leongatha, Victoria, and Patterson's eventual arrest following the death cap mushroom poisonings.
  • The incident occurred after Patterson served individual beef Wellingtons containing lethal mushrooms to her estranged in-laws Don and Gail Patterson, and Gail’s sister Heather Wilkinson, all three of whom died, whilst Heather's husband Ian survived after weeks in hospital.
  • In 2025, Patterson was convicted of three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder, receiving a life sentence with a 33-year minimum term before parole eligibility, though both her defence and prosecutors have launched legal appeals.
  • Created by writer Anya Beyersdorf alongside director Daina Reid, the series will be filmed on location in Victoria and produced by Australian production company Soapbox Pictures.
