With James Gunn confirming a movie is in the works, we take a look at which actresses could play Wonder Woman.

Superman, the very first feature film for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe, is set to release in a month, while Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has already finished filming. There are a few more films and shows in the first chapter of the DCU that are in the lineup, including The Brave and the Bold, which will introduce the DCU’s Batman, who remains uncast.

Two of the DC Trinity have their own movies in the first chapter of the DCU. Notably absent is the third member: Wonder Woman. However, in a surprising turn of events, Gunn has confirmed in an interview with EW that “We’re working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman‘s being written right now.”

Gunn also confirmed that he hasn’t cast the role yet. That said, we have a few ideas. Here are some of the actresses who could take on the role of Wonder Woman in the DCU.

Some actresses who could be Wonder Woman in the DCU

Ana de Armas

Ana de Armas has become a bona fide action star as of late. She’s proven she’s got the action chops as a Bond girl and Ghosted, and she’s set to go toe-to-toe with Baba Yaga himself in Ballerina. She’s also got the dramatic chops to give Diana depth and the charm to disarm audiences. Since Gal Gadot played Wonder Woman with an accent, Ana definitely can as well.

Adria Arjona

Adria Arjona is no stranger to the world of action or geekdom. She starred beside Jared Leto in Morbius but has recently received wide praise for her role as Bix in Andor, which is set in the Star Wars Universe. It makes sense for her to now join the DC Universe, and she could definitely be a wonderful addition.

Grace Caroline Currey

Why cast someone who was in the DCEU? For those who may have forgotten (and I wouldn’t blame you), Grace Caroline Currey played Mary in Shazam!. But even Jason Momoa, who was Aquaman in the DCEU, will now be playing Lobo, then why not couldn’t she be Wonder Woman? She’s got the look, the physique, and she already knows what it’s like to play a superhero.

Eiza González

Once you imagine Eiza González wielding the Lasso, it’s almost impossible not to see her in the role. She’s got the gravitas for Wonder Woman, not to mention the experience with all the stunt work she’s done in the past. On top of that, she can effortlessly lean into the dramatic for the more emotional scenes.

Melissa Barrera

She’s spent two movies being a scream queen, so a pivot to being a superhero shouldn’t be too drastic a change. The Scream films have proven she can handle stunts and physically taxing sequences, while her portrayal of Vanessa in Jon M. Chu’s In The Heights showcases just how adept she is in dramatic instances.

Ella Balinska

From the widely panned Resident Evil Netflix series to the underwhelming video game Forspoken, Ella Balinska hasn’t had great luck in her projects. That’s exactly why a big break and turnaround are long overdue for her. Despite those projects not doing so well, Ella’s performance was always top-notch. Aside from having the physique for Diana, she can definitely embody the superhero’s strength, dignity, and grace.

Monica Barbaro

Fresh off her Oscar nomination and becoming a well-known name, ironically due to a film titled A Complete Unknown, Monica Barbaro is a strong contender to be the new pilot of the Invisible Jet. She’s already got the action experience thanks to two seasons of FUBAR, and there’s no doubt that her dad on the show, Arnold Schwarzenegger, has been giving her tips.

Katy O’Brian

It’s easy to see why Katy O’Brien would be great as Wonder Woman. Aside from her physique, she’s also a regular in the world of nerd. She’s played a role in the Star Wars Universe, the MCU, and even The CW Arrowverse. Not only that, but she’s an expert martial artist, and she actually served as a police officer for seven years. Basically, she’s already Wonder Woman.

Alba Baptista

She doesn’t have an extensive filmography (yet), but Alba Baptista has dedicated fans thanks to her titular role in the Netflix series Warrior Nun. The love for her and the show was all the more evident when fans were outraged at the show being cancelled. Fortunately, it seems that it’s being revived as a film trilogy, but hopefully that means she can still take on the mantle of Wonder Woman. If she ever needs help or advice, she doesn’t need to look far. After all, Chris Evans, Cap himself, is her husband.
