Just as the Ministry of Civil Aviation, GOI, has officially notified the name of Adampur airport as Shri Guru Ravidass Ji Maharaj Airport, Adampur, the officials on Monday organised Passenger Services Day.
On the occasion, all arriving passengers were given a traditional welcome with ceremonial tilak and the auspicious sounds of drums, creating a festive atmosphere throughout the airport premises. Passengers were also offered the unique experience of taking a selfie with a cutout of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Various cultural performances captivated the audience during the event. Major attractions included Punjabi folk dance, an impactful street play and an art exhibition created by children, all of which vividly showcased Indian culture and conveyed meaningful social messages.
In addition, as part of social responsibility initiatives, a free health check-up camp, blood donation camp and eye check-up camp were organised for passengers and nearby residents. More than 200 people benefited from these services.
A tree plantation drive was conducted on the occasion and saplings were distributed to passengers to encourage them to increase greenery in their homes and surroundings. More than 500 passengers and guests were honoured during the event.
Sanitation workers employed at the airport, as well as children who displayed outstanding artistic talent through their paintings, were also honoured. On this occasion, Airport Director Pushpendra Kumar Nirala praised all airport staff and stated that their dedicated efforts have played a significant role in the successful operation of the airport.
On this occasion, the airport administration also highlighted the remarkable development journey of Adampur Airport. “Before 2014, no civil aviation services were available here. Subsequently, development work began under the Regional Connectivity Scheme and in 2018 the first civilian flight service to Delhi was launched from a terminal building covering approximately 375 square meters", said the officials.
Considering the growing number of passengers and regional demand, the Airports Authority of India constructed a terminal building of approximately 6,000 sq m in 2022. This modern terminal is capable of handling around 600 passengers per hour efficiently. Currently, regular flight services operate from Adampur Airport to Delhi, Hindon, Nanded, Bengaluru and Mumbai. In addition, passengers have access to convenient connecting flights to several international destinations, including Copenhagen, Manchester and Amsterdam.
The airport has also achieved significant milestones in environmental conservation. It operates on 100 per cent green energy and has implemented a sewage treatment plant, rainwater harvesting system and other eco-friendly facilities. Modern passenger amenities such as free Wi-Fi, a child play area, mobile charging stations, laptop workstations, a smoking room and a child care room are available for travellers.
Adampur Airport is also playing a leading role in various initiatives. Exhibitions showcasing students’ artwork are also held to provide a platform for their creative talents. So far, more than 100 students have completed internships at the airport. The airport’s popularity and usefulness can be gauged from the significant increase in passenger traffic. During the last financial year, approximately 1.11 lakh passengers used the airport, compared to about 35,000 in the previous period. This represents an impressive growth of around 218 per cent in passenger traffic, reflecting the increasing need for air connectivity in the region and the airport’s continuous development, said Nirala.
