PENAMPANG: Small traders operating stalls near the Petronas station in Donggongon town are urging authorities to address the persistent flash floods which caused them to suffer heavy losses.
The sudden deluge on Sunday night swept away their goods, including onions, packaged cooking oil and vegetables.
The traders claimed the strong currents carried their goods some 1,000 metres away, depositing them near the New LT Tyres shop by the traffic lights close to CKS Donggongon.
On Monday morning, workers at the tyre shop discovered an array of items washed up outside their premises, including packets of cooking oil, onions and even fish baskets.

“By 7pm on Sunday, all our agricultural produce are gone,” lamented one of the affected traders.
They said the recurring nature of the problem is that heavy rainfall causes water from upstream areas to flow rapidly to lower ground.
They urged the local authorities to implement long-term solutions to mitigate the flooding issue.
