PAKATAN Harapan (PH) has named its Melaka chairman Adly Zahari as its candidate for chief minister should the coalition win the November 14 state election.
PH election director Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the coalition leadership had reached a consensus on Adly, despite having several potential candidates for the post.
“Adly is a good candidate, as are several others, but for now, the consensus is to name Adly as our candidate for chief minister if we secure a majority,” he told reporters after the closing ceremony of the 2026 National Hawkers and Small Traders Day.
Adly is no stranger to the post, having served as Melaka chief minister from May 2018 until March 2020, when the PH-led state government collapsed following the political upheaval triggered by the Sheraton Move.
He was also PH’s choice for chief minister in the 2021 state election, but the coalition managed to win only five of the 28 seats, with Barisan Nasional taking 21 and Perikatan Nasional securing the remaining two.
The latest announcement puts Adly at the centre of PH’s bid to regain control of Melaka, five years after its defeat at the polls.
