KUDAT: The Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) will launch an operation called Gasak Laut (Bagang) on Thursday to destroy all such isolated structures at sea built without permission in the district.
Those who have done so off the East Coast of Sabah have been advised to vacate or dismantle them.
ESSCom Commander DCP Hamzah Ahmad said the integrated operation would involve police, the Armed Forces, the Maritime Enforcement Agency, Sabah Parks and the Sabah Fishery Department.
In a statement, DCP Hamzah said a survey conducted by the security forces showed that the number of illegal Bagangs have increased and they posed a security threat in waters in ESSZone.
He added that the operation would be carried out under Section 48 (1) (j) of the Sabah Parks Enactment 1984 (Amendment 2007), Section 11 (3) © of the Fishery Act 1985 and related laws.
During the operation, Sabah Parks and the Sabah Fishery Department would issue joint-notices for vacating and destroying the illegal Bagangs.
He urged members of the public with information on any illegal Bagang to report to the EssCom Operations Centre by calling 089-863 181 or via WhatsApp at 011-633 10072.
