MANILA, Philippines — Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula urged Filipino Catholics to live out the teachings of Jesus Christ by turning away from pride and embracing humility.

In his homily at the Evening Mass of the Lord's Supper at the Manila Cathedral on Thursday, Advincula said the ongoing global conflict stemmed from the lack of love from God and others, calling on the faithful to “wash the feet of those in need.”

“The chaos that is happening in our world today is rooted in the lack of love for God and for others. What prevails is arrogance, cruelty, and a lack of respect for each other,” Advincula said.

He added that instead of seeking ways to compromise and understand, many resorted to destroying others.

He urged the public to illuminate the lives of people around them and serve as a bridge of compassion, emphasizing that their true weapon is the word of God.

“The word of God, who humbled himself and became man, teaches us how to be human and to relate to others…May we all be instruments of God’s good news,” he said.
