PUTRAJAYA — The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) is considering disciplinary action against Selangor FC following crowd unrest that erupted after the team’s 3-2 defeat to Persib Bandung in the Asian Champions League II (ACL II) yesterday.

Speaking to Scoop, AFC general secretary Datuk Seri Windsor Paul John said the governing body views the incident seriously, particularly those involving fan safety and security.

“We are obviously very disappointed with what has happened as we take safety and security matters very seriously,” said Windsor.

“We are waiting for the official reports from the match commissioner and referee before forwarding them to our Disciplinary Committee.

“Once we have studied the findings, the committee will decide on the appropriate action, which could include fines, warnings, or other disciplinary measures depending on the severity of the incident.”

Meanwhile, the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) has strongly condemned the emergence of “hooligan culture” in Malaysian sports, warning that violence and disorderly behaviour will not be tolerated at any sporting event.

Speaking at a press conference today, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh stressed that such incidents are especially unacceptable in football — a sport popular among families and young children.

“We have a Safe Sports Code which applies not only to athletes but also to event organisers and facility operators,” she said.

“Football is a recreational sport for families and suitable for children to attend. I urge all organisers and football fans to ensure a healthy and safe environment for children and their families.”

Hannah added that violent behaviour has no place in Malaysian society.

“Hooliganism or fighting is not part of Malaysian values. I urge everyone, not only in football but in all sporting events, to put an end to such acts, because our younger generation is watching how we conduct ourselves,” she said.

The incident occurred at the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) Stadium last night when several Selangor supporters entered the pitch after the final whistle to vent frustration over the team’s elimination from the competition.

Security personnel quickly intervened, and the group later gathered outside the stadium, demanding a meeting with the team’s management.

Selangor captain Faisal Halim stepped in to calm the situation, engaging directly with supporters in an effort to defuse tensions.

The defeat marked Selangor’s fourth consecutive loss in Group G, leaving them bottom of the table without a single point under head coach Christophe Gamel.

The Red Giants had earlier suffered defeats to Bangkok United and Lion City Sailors.
