The wife of a missing Malaysian officer in Nepal joins a local humanitarian aid mission in hopes of finding clues about her husband.
KUALA LUMPUR: Hani Othman, who has been in Nepal for eight days to follow the developments in the search for her missing Special Airborne Fire and Rescue Team (PASKUB) officer husband, today joined a mission to distribute humanitarian aid to disaster victims in the country, while hoping to find any clues as to her husband.
Hani, who is currently on her way from Nuwakot to Betrawati with the local non-governmental organisations (NGO) Samundra Nepal NGO and Himalayan Leaders, said that the area they are heading to is not the last location where her husband’s vehicle was detected, but she still hopes that the journey will yield clues.
“The area of my husband’s last point is further up. It’s difficult to access. But Nuwakot is also a disaster-prone area, just located further down.
“I will distribute aid to the victims here. Let’s see, who knows, we might find some clues,” she said when contacted by Bernama.
Hani said that some of the aid items were collected earlier in Kathmandu, while the rest were donated by local NGOs.
Meanwhile, through a social media post, Hani shared that yesterday she managed to distribute aid to disaster victims around Kathmandu, including those who were recently rescued in Timure, and also met the wife of her husband’s team vehicle driver.
She said the contributions from Malaysians were channelled on behalf of her husband, Senior Fire Officer II Mohd Fakhrul Munir Mohd Isa, and eight other members of his expedition team, including Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM ) deputy director of the Fire and Rescue Operations Division Mohd Sani Harul.
“As long as I have known them, they are all good people. They are also generous and like to help others. May Allah ease all their search endeavours and protect them all no matter where they are.
“Set aside religious and ethnic differences for now, let’s pray for the best for all of them,” she said.
So far, Hani has not received news of any new developments regarding the fate of her husband who was reported missing in the flood tragedy in Rasuwa, Nepal on Aug 26.
Two days after the incident, Hani flew to Kathmandu on her own initiative to get the latest updates on the search and rescue efforts for her husband.
Mohd Fakhrul, 44, was reported missing after the four-wheel drive vehicle his group was in during an expedition to Everest Base Camp (EBC) was believed to have been affected by floods while in a valley in Rasuwa.
A total of 55 Malaysians have been reported as still unreachable following the disaster that occurred on Aug 26, while 77 others who were found safe in Tibet and Nepal have been brought to Kathmandu to undergo processing before returning to Malaysia.
Anadolu Agency reported that the death toll from the disaster has risen to 1,220, while 4,762 people, including 844 foreigners, are still missing.
