PUTRAJAYA, Aug 6 — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today said a “blue wave” could extend beyond Johor and Negeri Sembilan and soon reach Putrajaya, following Barisan Nasional’s (BN) strong showing in the two state elections.
“Politics is a different matter but God willing the blue wave will come.
“The blue wave will continue. From Johor to Negeri Sembilan, and God willing, arrive here. I’m not sure if it will reach Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah but I will make sure it reaches Perlis,” Zahid, who is also rural and regional development minister said during his ministry’s monthly assembly here.
A resurgent BN won big in Johor and subsequently Negeri Sembilan, where they teamed up with rivals Perikatan Nasional to unseat the Pakatan Harapan-led state government that had governed the southern state for eight years.
Zahid and the coalition appeared buoyed by the back-to-back victories, stating in several press conferences after the polls that BN’s strong electoral performance indicated returning support.
BN and PH are still currently part of the same alliance at the federal level, although analysts said BN’s victories in the two states could rock their relationship even as the Anwar government has slightly more than a year left in power.
