After more than two decades, the National Registration Department (JPN) previously announced that it would roll out the New Generation MyKad in phases, with around 50 additional security features.
Today, JPN also gave the public a sneak peek at the new MyKad’s design, which will be available starting tomorrow (17 September).

New Generation MyKad available from tomorrow!
JPN described the New Generation MyKad as an evolution of Malaysia’s national identity card, designed to keep up with the changing times.
The department also said that 40 JPN branches equipped with Printing Centres nationwide will be ready to issue the new MyKad, with same-day processing available.
“More modern. More secure. Built for the future. After more than two decades, the time has come for a new generation to take its place, bringing updates to the MyKad’s design, structure, and security features.
“Starting 17 September 2026, a total of 40 JPN branches equipped with Printing Centres nationwide will be ready to issue the New Generation MyKad, with same-day processing,” the statement read.

New Generation MyKad will not affect subsidy balances
With the New Generation MyKad rolling out soon, Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has advised the public not to rush to National Registration Department (JPN) offices to replace their existing MyKad when applications open.
He said the replacement will be carried out in phases, while existing MyKad cards will remain valid for daily transactions, as reported by BERNAMA.
Saifuddin also assured that replacing the MyKad will not affect any remaining subsidy balances or eligibility linked to the identification document, as the records are still based on the existing MyKad.
