CIVIL servants must uphold discipline and set a positive example by refraining from participating in public rallies, Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar said on Saturday.
Speaking after launching the Attorney-General’s Chambers’ (AGC) Santuni MADANI outreach programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan Pulai Chondong, Mohd Dusuki said any civil servant found to have taken part in such gatherings could face disciplinary action from their respective department heads.
“Such assemblies actually violate the code of conduct and discipline for civil servants.
“As public servants, we are supposed to set a good example, and I believe civil servants' involvement in these events does not serve any benefit,” he said.
His remarks come amid renewed scrutiny over civil servants’ involvement in politically charged events, following several recent public demonstrations in the capital.
Mohd Dusuki reiterated that a directive from the Chief Secretary to the Government remains in effect, explicitly prohibiting civil servants from participating in public assemblies.
During the programme, the AG also presented RM3,000 in cash aid and a television set to the school, in addition to distributing batik cloths and water bottles to more than 1,000 villagers and students.
Separately, when asked about the sentencing of motoring influencer Tengku Nizaruddin Tengku Zainudin and his brother Tengku Abdul Aziz on Friday, Mohd Dusuki declined to comment directly but confirmed the AGC would study the case.
“I cannot comment at this time as it falls under the jurisdiction of the court. However, we will review the matter,” he said. - July 26, 2025
