The Attorney-General’s Chambers calls for a comprehensive, interference-free investigation into an alleged plot to overthrow the government, vowing to prosecute any involved parties
KUALA LUMPUR: The Attorney-General’s Chambers has demanded a comprehensive and independent investigation into an alleged plot to overthrow the Malaysian government.
In a statement, the AGC stressed the probe must be conducted professionally and free from any interference.
It warned that any party found involved must be held accountable under the law, regardless of their standing or background.
“Any decision on prosecution will be made independently and objectively based on facts, statements and legal considerations,” the AGC stated.
The department said it viewed the issue with utmost seriousness.
It stated that any action affecting public order, political stability and national security touches the foundations of parliamentary democracy and the rule of law.
“The department will provide full cooperation to the Royal Malaysia Police to ensure that the legal process can be conducted in line with the Federal Constitution and the rule of law,” it added.
The AGC issued its statement following an official announcement by Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail.
The IGP had confirmed a police investigation into allegations of a plot to overthrow the government and disrupt national stability.
